The Human Capital Institute (HCI) and Vurv Technology have announced that HR leaders still do not meet the measures of talent management and business acumen. “The Role of HR in the Age of Talent,” shows that only 22 percent of HR leaders were considered experts across talent management issues like globalization, outsourcing, workforce integration and financial acumen.Other key findings from the report include:
1. More than 70 percent of HR Organizations focus on Risk Avoidance rather than Risk Taking;
2. Two thirds of respondents said that HR is either important, respected and/or consulted with on corporate strategy;
3. Almost 60% of HR heads report directly to the CEO;
4. There now exists a 50/50 split in HR versus talent management mindsets; and
5. While only 22% of leaders were assessed as expert, only 15% were considered expert by non-HR respondents.
Whilst this is yet another example of HR bashing I am concerned that the profession does not seem to be focusing on the right issues at the moment. In the current environment where issues such as the “credit crunch” (and other elephants) demand focus on matters such as talent, organisational design and lean processes this research suggests that we are otherwise engaged. And we wonder why we struggle to get a “seat at the table”!
The full report can be found here – be warned they have one of those REALLY annoying registration forms to complete before you get to read the document.

I wasn't sufficiently energetic to follow the link.
I wonder what people would say if we asked "what does your HR do well? Which would you like them to continue? Why do they do this so well?"
hey david, here is that site i was talking about where i made the extra cash this summer, it's pretty cool... anyway,
check it out ..
This HAS to be difficult for HR software makers to cue in on... when there seems to be such a lack of focus within the industry itself.
here are some thoughts on Talent Management and Web 2.0 - let me know your thoughts - http://youarenew.blogspot.com/2008/06/talent-management-20-how-web-20-can.html
So what will happen....
Will recruiting move out of HR completely and become a service purchased by companies, or will they wake up and realize the cost savings of hiring, retaining, and promoting high level professionals in their HR departments.
With the software and available material out there, there is no reason that HR professionals cannot market themselves better to their own organizations and improve their perspective about the functions they provide for the company.
Hr is necessary, and it saves money and improves efficiency for the company when done correctly.
Thanks for the comments and links folks. Always seems so obvious this topic but in reality we all find it pretty difficult.
Hi Scott, this is a pretty significant post. After all the money businesses spend to got the right talent, they want employees to fit in. HR Leaders need to find ways to help CEO's make the most of the brainpool they hire. Thanks for the insights!
That is lame.
I do not personally believe in all the research and specially in the manner in which they are conducted.
Thanks for the post.

Won't you wonder if somebody says he doesn't know what is a software company ? Am sure you will fall off from your chair. But believe me it is true. There still are people in third world countries who don’t know anything about software development, web application development or internet. So those who are not really aware about these buzzing things, try to find out what is a tech-world of Internet.
